How the PTY/ABN Calculator works.

The calculator builds the TFN side first, then estimates the PTY/ABN revenue needed to replace the value you entered.

1. Weekly TFN income

Ordinary hours are multiplied by the effective ordinary rate. Time-and-a-half hours are multiplied by 1.5 and double-time hours by 2. Weekly allowances are then added.

2. Casual loading

If casual loading is switched on, the calculator increases the base rate by the selected loading percentage. It then removes paid annual leave and annual-leave loading from the package so those items are not counted twice.

3. Superannuation

The displayed super estimate is intentionally simplified and is based on ordinary-hours pay as an OTE-style estimate. Actual OTE treatment can depend on the type of payment, award or agreement.

4. Estimated TFN tax and take-home

Resident mode uses Australian resident tax brackets and a rough Medicare levy. Working-holiday-maker mode uses the WHM brackets shown in the calculator. The website also shows a clearer weekly tax breakdown, separating weekly income tax, weekly Medicare levy and total weekly tax. These figures are estimates derived from the annual calculation.

5. PTY/ABN equivalent

The employment value is built from wages, allowances, leave assumptions and super. Optional NSW payroll tax and PTY/ABN overhead are then added. The total is divided by billable hours to produce an equivalent invoice rate before GST.

Payroll tax note

The NSW payroll-tax toggle is a simplified allowance only. NSW payroll tax is currently 5.45%, and it generally applies when total Australian wages exceed the annual threshold. Actual liability depends on the business's circumstances and threshold position.
